Dr. Stan Deaton from the Georgia Historical Society visits St. Luke School!
To say that my 8th graders were excited is an understatement! Dr. Deaton explained how Today in Georgia History started and how the series was produced. He answered students' questions about the series, his work as a historian, and his job at the Georgia Historical Society. Afterwords, he posed with any student who wanted a picture and even signed autographs! Thank you, Dr. Deaton, for making a VERY positive and powerful impression on my students!
Big News!! Dr. Stan Deaton of the Georgia Historical Society will speak to St. Luke 8th graders this Friday morning, January, 29th, at 11:00 in the small dining room of the Ministry Center. Dr. Deaton is familiar to St. Luke 8th graders and alumni as the host of Today in Georgia History, a daily short documentary about a significant event in Georgia history.
Students will recieve 10 points of extra credit on their next test if they attend his speech at the Columbus Museum on Thursday night.

Welcome to Shelnutt's Den, my class website. I'm Chris Shelnutt and this is my 18th year of teaching and my 8th year at St. Luke School. I'm originally from a very small town in deep south Georgia, Pearson. I went to Young Harris College and the University of Georgia. Go Dawgs! My two children, John Mark and Sarah, both attended St. Luke during middle school. John Mark just graduated from Georgia State University and Sarah is a junior at UGA. When I'm not at school, I like to putter in my yard and read. My favorite authors are Jane Austen, Stephen Ambrose, Jacqueline Winspear and Doris Kearns Goodwin.
Thanks to Keith and Vicky Paul I was able to attend the presentation on presidential leadership by Doris Kearns Goodwin at the Blanchard Leadership Forum! I have all her books, so getting an signed copy of her latest was a big thrill!
