One of the Middle School Social Studies goals this year is to increase awareness of current events and geography. In order to meet this goal, each 8th grade student will present current events to the class. Each student will be assigned 1 day during each grading period. For each day they will find and summarize a current event from one of the following areas: the local area, Georgia, the US, or the world. (I will tell them which area.) They will find an article(not an editorial or blog entry), usually from an online newspaper or news magazine source, summarize it and include the citing information. They will present their summary orally to the class. Below are guidelines, examples, and the rubric I will use to evaluate their presentation. Since this is CURRENT event, students should not pick an article earlier than 3 days before their summary is due. ( For example, someone whose summary is due on Monday could pick an article on Friday.)
After each student presents their current event, they will place a small post-it with a brief description on our world map.
